Btw, the longest I ever had to stand in line for voting in a public election was about a quarter of an hour and that was at the height of the pandemic where the public health related restrictions simply slowed the process down a bit.

Predicted results are not nice but not catastrophic either. In Berlin that is. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern it looks almost as bad as in Sachsen-Anhalt recently (but still it is unlikely that AfD will actually get into power this time).

This email arrived today from Anne Applebaum to subscribers of the Atlantic:
Wrongly described as “isolationist,” the ideologues and true believers now running the American government don’t think of themselves as ordinary Republicans who won an election and will temporarily hold power until the next one. Nor are they mere appendages of Donald Trump. They believe that they represent something much greater: the vanguard of a revolutionary movement that will alter not just America but the world—enriching themselves and their friends in the process.
Their revolution is the subject of my cover story for The Atlantic’s October issue. I wrote it based on 18 months of reporting from around the world, including from Copenhagen, São Paulo, Calgary, and New Delhi. Everywhere, I found people contending with the nature of America’s revolutionary change, one that has special resonance in the democratic world that came into being after 1945. This was a world based not exclusively on laws but on a set of mostly self-imposed restraints. Inside this sphere, America’s power was mostly derived from alliances that it refrained from exploiting. Long-term relationships were valuable, because the country never knew when it might need friends. U.S. politicians did not execute American foreign policy, or indeed domestic policy, in order to make money for themselves or their children.
This world is fast disappearing, and it is being replaced by one in which ideologues inside the Trump administration promote far-right parties who share their definition of “Western civilization” and foreign politicians willing to undermine the rule of law on behalf of American companies. Following the president’s lead, actors inside and outside the administration are seizing the revolutionary moment in order to win zero-sum victories for themselves, not to produce long-term stability and benefits for everyone. Most Americans probably don’t want to encourage the breakup of Canada, pursue the occupation of Greenland by stealth, or undermine democratically elected governments in Europe. But those are all projects very important to people in and around the Trump administration.
Some of this story concerns places that often fall under the radar and aren’t featured much in American media. But it’s important that Americans understand how the Trump administration and its cronies affect the inhabitants of places such as Nuuk and Brasília, because what happens there will shape perceptions of our country, and our companies, for many years to come. Thank you for supporting journalism that seeks to explain our modern world in all of its complexity; I hope you’ll read the story.
Btw, the longest I ever had to stand in line for voting in a public election was about a quarter of an hour…
As I recall, my state added its first permanent no-excuse mail ballot list the legislative session after I stood outside in a blizzard for 45 minutes before I got inside, then stood some more before I got to vote. I jumped at the list.
Of all the politicians Navatek courted under Kao’s leadership, Collins was its most important patron. The senator’s office steered government contracts worth millions toward the company while her campaign was pumping Kao and his network for donations, according to emails seen by ProPublica. Sometimes they cut checks within 24 hours of the annual defense spending bill, which funds military contracts, clearing a key Senate hurdle.
Not a good time or a good look for her. Wonder if and how she wriggles out of this one…

The ballroom and the Arc de Fuckyou will be bristling with snipers and military drones to massacre what enemies descending on the Capital of the United States of America?
Question of the day.
Until more horrific questions arise overnight from the conservative movement vermin.
The gratuitously smiling fascist louts are contemplating by decree renaming the Ford Theater, where they previously murdered Abraham Lincoln, the John Wilkes Booth/Donald Trump National Theater and Nuclear Warhead Armory.
A shooting range will be be installed behind the box seats where Lincoln was shot with the silhouetted heads of the other 46 Presidents.
Also, the Lincoln Monument will be repurposed to launch bomb—laden drones and cruise missiles from Abe’s crotch at newly-elected Democratic reps and senators as they are denied being seated in Congress next January by the genocidal subhuman Christian conservative speaker of the House.

Congress. And possibly the Supreme Court, unless they’ve already sent word that they’re cool with an autogolpe backed by the military.
I could have happily lived out my life without ever having to know what autogolpe means.

If, by “Capital” you mean the White House, then yeah, pretty much. But if by “Capital” you mean the Capital Building, then no. Protection of the Congress (or even the Supreme Court for that matter) is not a priority. Not even a medium level one.
This dovetails perfectly with my thesis all these years that the vicious, ruthless subhuman “modern” Republican Party was co-founded by John Wilkes Booth.
His partners in killing America, Donald Trump and Nazi legal theorist Carl Schmitt, the latter surely to be confused with six current members of our Fascist Supreme Court, are close to placing their final vermin vice on all now-dying American institutions.
And let’s not forget the many other evil ones who contributed their glib wisdom to the demise of freely-elected American democracy, so strenuously and meticulously planned these many past decades by the subhuman conservative movement.
Milton Friedman, for example, who needs to die many more times, and who told Hong Kong in the 1970s that democratic institutions were superfluous to his ultimate libertarian free market goals.
He was the godfather to the vicious tech bros now demanding that the entire show should be upended on their behalf’s, while they meanwhile construct bomb shelter retreats around the globe to hide themselves when their shit finally hits the fan and 8 billion armed human beings come for them and their MAGA conservative movement political goals of thoroughly stifling all first amendment and constitutional voting rights to achieve their ends.
Trump has cancelled funding approved by Congress and Collins is throwing a public fit about it in the media, and thumping the table with her her greedy little hands.

The only logical conservative Christian Republican MAGA follow-up gambit, win or lose with these supremely evil tactics, will be American genocide.
We will be Palestinians. The dead ones.

Well, by Capitol.
